Default how to tell the diff between a 95 engine and a 98

how do i tell the diff from a 95 engine and a 98 engine? my cherokee is a 95, the guy i got it said the previous owner before him claimed it has a motor from a 98 in it. how do i tell if it really is a 98 motor and not a 95? i just need to know for purposes of buying parts. the motor runs fine at the moment.
