I looked for about a year over here. Lots of cherokee's for sale, but a lot of owners were looking to get what they had into them it seemed. In MI rust is a given unfortunatly.

Generally I was looking at around $5000+ for 120-160k on it.

I found one for $4800 with only 88k and perfect interior, minor rust, and runs great.

Just keep searching, you'll find one.

I bought my '94 XJ Sport a few months ago with 280,000 miles on it for $900. 2,000 miles later and still running strong. Minor leak, but I just gotta have the time to replace the rocker cover gasket. (hopefully that's all it is )

97 XJ, 233,000 miles, had it since new. Brakes, tires, an A/C compressor, one O-2 sensor, and a couple of windshields over the years. Its still a champ and doesn't burn or drip a drop of oil. I am going to run it until one of us dies.

IMHO, I bought my XJ for $1500 with 196xxx miles, 1991 Laredo. I bought it in October, ran it through 4 ft snow and frigid cold all winter, and when spring came routing crap started goin out (plus I came to find out the PO basically abused and neglected the poor ol girl). So far, I have replaced the P/S pump, Water Pump, Harmonic Balancer, Ignition Coil, Radiator, and valve cover gasket. I kid you not, when you take care of your XJ and nurse it, it will heal and take good care of you. My XJ has never let me down. And these 4.0's, properly maintained, can last up to 400k miles. Hell, I love my XJ so much I have a Titan reman 4.0 and new AW4 sittin in the books for when mine finally gives the ghost up.

I bought my 89' Cherokee 4.0L, Aw4, NP242 in Dec of 96' for 11k. I now have 292,000 miles on it. Still running strong. Maintenance, change the oil and don't overheat. Recently changed the original front hub bearings and original fuel pump. Replaced the starter once, the alternator once, radiator once, Water pump once, steering pump once, CPS twice, Coil and Ignition Module twice, and battery twice.
