Default how many of you are running bastard springs in the rear of your XJ?

Im looking to match my 4.5" front lift. Ive been considering 52" front chevy fullsize springs, but they would move the axle back by 2".

Im sure theres alot of folks who built the rear spring pack, I wanna hear from you.

IM not scared of relocating spring perches or longer shackles. I just want to hear what works for ya'll.

Fullsize dodge van leaves are a good pack for the hieght you are locking for. They are longer than XJ leaves from the center pin to the shackle. So you also get a good shackle angle out of it, instead of the vertical one that most kits packs have. Mine were out of a 2500 and they netted about 4-5 inches of lift. Naxja has got more info on the subject.

Most people use the XJ main leaf with S10 leaves under neath. Three leaves give you about 4-4.5", cut off the eyes of the main and us it and get 5-5.5". No other welding or anything necessary except longer shocks

This is good info guys.

The XJ springs are 24" front dowel to pin. how does that compare to the dodge springs?

With the S10 stuff, if I understand correctly, you disassemble both the Xj pack and the s10 pack. basically throw the XJ top leaf onto the s10 pack and call it good for 4-5" lift?

Does it flex pretty good?

Yes, it flexes well. The first few inches flex better than my front coils.

you dont take them both apart..just leave your xj main leaf in. cut the eyelets of the s-10 leafs....slap the entire leaf pack on your xj main....i did this with a 1.5'' shackle to complete mt 5.5'' lift

just about any 2.5" wide leaf spring will work.

just remember when looking for donor leafs

more thin leaves> a couple thick leaves

I would like to add a couple of things to that. The Jeep spring has 4" of free arch. That is where you want your Jeep t end up at. With 4' arch with the weight of the vehicle on it. The S10 spring has 8" of arch and about 4" with the weight of the S10 on it. So when looking for a donor spring, this is the type of spring you are looking for. The next thing is that the donor spring needs to be about the same length as the Jeep spring. A third desirable characteristic is that it be a two stage spring, that is with the flat leaf on the bottom. This gives load carrying capacity with good ride and flex.

cool, that makes sense. Im going to head to the jy tomorrow and see what there is to see.

On another note, the rear shackle seems potentially restrictive when the suspension flexes. It seems like the hole it sits in is too small to put a longer shackle in. how do ya'll get around that?

x10 this is the setup i am running and i love them the dodge van springs are a very good way to go plus they are not to harsh a ride or to bouncy. plus you get about a perfect shackle angle when you are using lift shackles unlike lots of others that have a bad angle and bounce a lot

This is the chart I use it is from Pirate 4x4, you may have to zoom in on it cause it is a little small on here. I have used a couple different packs before with good results. You kind of have to experiment with stuff unless you are just going to use the s-10's

What kind of bushings are you using for the rear of the leaf spring. Mine are pretty chewed up and they don't even have a sleeve in the middle of them. Just rubber.
