Mine ticks but its a very faint tick. I think its just the sound of the components in there. Its not a single tick, its a multiple tick. I also have 232,600 on mine though. Open up the valve plug on top and see if you can hear multiple ticks at once from in there. You can also watch everything workin in there. Thats one reason why I like my cherokee, I can actually see the engine work. I hope to take mine over 400,000 before it goes. Im more than halfway there already.

Up to 156K here. I've been through the cylinder head replacement (0331 casting) that every 2000-01 seems to experience. Clean as a whistle inside though, and still has 165-170 psi in all cylinders!
