My tread looks different than that tire. But no they don't get much louder. I do notice though when I drive my roommates camry it is way quite compared to my Jeep.

I am bringing it in for a tech to drive it tomorrow. I need to find a Jeep shop that doesn't charge for putting it on a lift and inspecting it. I am spoiled by my BMW shop.

I'm with caged and REWSTER and think it's either carrier or pinion bearings.

If it is either of the bearings, what do you think a shop would charge for this? I am not sure I have the time to do it myself. Is it something that should be fixed right away or can it wait a while?

Thanks again for all the suggestions, I really appreciate it!

See if the pinion seal is leaking on the diff.. If it is, the pinion bearings have probably been bad for awhile causing enough play to damage the seal. Pull the plug and see if you can feel any fluid with your finger. It should be at the bottom of the plug.

Default noise

Does it make a difference when you change lanes like if you were to sway back and fourth in the road a wheel bearing can be bad even though it has no play in it.

I had those exact tires and size. They were silent. No way that sound is coming from them unless their damaged or something.

I will try to check the fluid tomorrow. I didn't notice any difference when turning, but I didn't get much opportunity.

Yet again, how much of a job are the bearings? Is it going to cost a lot from a shop or just a few hundred?

Default where's the vibration?

You said there was a vibration? Where you feel it can help to tell you where it's coming from. If you feel it through the steering wheel, then it is most likely coming from the front end. If you fell it in your @$$ then it is most likely coming from the rear end. No pun intended there. lol! Seriously though, this might help you with some trouble shooting.

If it's the pinion bearing, to have a shop replace it will probably cost you a minimum of $300. JMO

I can feel some vibrations, not much in the steering wheel but it really does seem like it is coming from the front.

Sorry to be asking so many questions, but one more.

I have a camping trip planned this weekend. If it were the drive shaft or pinion or any other bearing, would it be safe to drive about 200 miles? Nothing seemed out of place when I looked under the car. There were no obvious signs of anything leaking fluid although I will double check before the trip.

on the front driveshaft there should be a zerk fitting on the slip joint that you can grease, same with the rear. could be coming from your diffs too. but i dont think it would hurt to have the tires balanced, and if its not that then its just one more thing to cross off your list. also check hubs and bearings.
