Default how hard is it to change the intake gasket?

I think I have a intake gasket leak. I have never done one before. something I could tackle or take it to the mechanic.

and what is the cost of having someone put it on?

its easy and should take a few hours...you will need a universal as the bottom Intake bolts can be tricky.

But the header has to be pulled from the head also as the intake/header share the same gasket.......

The bolts that are in between the intake and the exhaust manifold only need to be loosened because the intake slips around the bolt

If you are, or used to be a mechanic. Its pritty easy. However if you dont feel comfortable swapping out a clutch or transmission, this job might be better sent to a mechanic.

You have to remove the power steering pump from the front of the engine to start. You also should remove the air cleaner for clearence and room to work. Be carefull not to break any bolts on the power steering pump bracket, or cylenderhead. Drilling them out would not be fun. I usually put wadded up papper towels in the intake and exhaust ports or the head and intake manifold before cleaning up the gasket surfaces, so to not get any debris in the motor or intake manifolds. Make shure when you tighten the intake/exhaust manifolds, that you follow the torqe sequence in a repair manuel.

I just got done replacing my "combination" Header/Intake. It did take me about 8hrs to complete the job, so i would suggest doing it yourself. I'm just guessing any shop would charge at least $600 for labor!!!

Honestly, it was a pretty easy job, just time consuming...

If you do decide to tackle this project, there's alot of write-ups on it!

Thumbs up

Do it yourself it is not hard, just pick up a shop manual and follow the steps. While your at it look around for anything that you may want to replace while the manifold is off. You will save a lot of time and labor when something else goes out later on!
