Hey guys!

So im new to this whole jeep community still, and i want to get out there and go wheeling!...but im not exactly sure how far i can push my stock cherokee. Im not exactly in financial situation to do the lift, tires, and all that being only 16 and saving for college , but i still wanna get out there and ride? ive gone pretty far when my jeep was stock , just check out a hole or whatever before you go through it and always have another partner with another truck with you and have some recovery points

If I were you...as I did the same when in college...is get some mud tires that will clear your fenders well. My XJ is still pretty much stock and I used to have some kick *** mud tires <235x75-15 Maxxis Buckshots> and got through some crazy stuff! Now I'm running 30x9.50 15 Falken Ziex All-Terrains...and wishing badly I had got Mud's! I'm still in college and working full-time and full-time college, living off Red Bull's to get my XJ the way I want it! Gotta love youth!

You will be really surprised what a Stock XJ can do. Take it out and learn... So much better to go stock first and then build from there. We had two stock XJ's with us at Winterfest 2009 in attica, In. They were great and almost went everywhere the rest of the group did. Granted they had to go around some of the technical stuff but they did great.

i gone really far as mine is still stock ive done rock climing, mudding, crossed a way to deep river, remember that jeeps were designed for off road situations and they can get you further than you think if you dont mind a few scrapes and bottoming out the suspension a few times...but ive take mine down an old train tunnel in january and there was about 5"s of ice and i broke threw and the water was comin inside and still made it out of there with no harm except a busted fog lights and a big ol hunk of ice on my hood (come to think of it it was the only time i actually (had) to use four low to get out. you will be pleased just be careful the first few times out and learn what your jeep is capable of. NO YOUR LIMITS.

the other thing i ould recomend if ur staying at stock height(or lifting) is under armor. a good set of skid plates that protect all your vital organs is key to making it out and bck

Just get a decent set of rubber and you'll be ok for the most part. Like the other said just walk the area before wheeling it and keep a close eye of your surroundings.

All I have is a set of retread mud tires and i've went many places i'd never thought i'd be able to go in my jeep. You'll be amazed, i've had my XJ in places where my old blazers and S-10's only dreamed of going

when i was stock i had some cheap allterrains and i i took it damn near anywhere and when i couldnt get any farther thats where i turned around but if your new to things like others said walk it and start out with some easy stuff then the better ya get the more technical ya can go and always try to have another vehicle around to pull ya out and tow straps shovels and any kind of jack will help if ya get hung up (i still just carry a 6ton bottle jack) but im also bigger now and have a winch

I've climbed hills were the bumber has dragged on the road in bald tires. It is a jeep and it will do a lot. Just make sure you spot everything before you go flooring it through it. If there is bid bulging rocks, i would not recommend doing it. But like i said i've been up hills forwards backwards side ways. no mud yet because i have no one to get me out.

i took a stock 87 through a "water hole" a few years back and had water about fout inches on the winshield and side windows. surprisingly enough it made it and turned around and came back with no issues.......until the next day! i had to rebuild the alternator. i did change the oil and diff fluids, but not the transmission fluid (that would be a good idea). i'm on my third xj now (2000) and they are awesome, just respect the terrain and look at it first before committing! good luck
