my drivers axle-shaft bearing failed last night on the way home from a long AM night of wheeling.....
i get a mile from my house and boom...... tire and shaft come right out with a sudden drop...
so how do you get back moving again?????
my brakes were bad now so the shaft wouldn't go back in flush, so i can't risk bending the shaft by letting it sit there.... so
i went home grabbed a highlift jack and came back with a tire/rim also...

now luckily it had been raining alllllllll day so the gound was nice and wet which kept the tire from skreeching
had to drive in 4wd but it worked
plz comments of my craftiness
or questions for future referece

whats FWIW???? and we thought about getting a trailer but we only knew one guy with one that would work and keep in mind... this all happened at 3AM this morning so phoning an asleep friend who had to drive to the other side of the state today was not a respectful option....

well i already had 2 of my jeep friends and didn't want to wake him up.... and we thought about the whole hooking it up to "crutch" it.... but we didn't have the appropriate straping to do so... and this was also in the middle of town so if a po-po saw us like that... then i doubt they would just drive by

Thats true, did you think about your car insurance to see if you are covered for this and see if you have road side help. If not you need to get it.

Dude good thinking! Was it dangerous? well, yes. But what were your options. I would have never thought of that. Besides, I have found that most of the police that I have run into after 2am are just happy to find me without a beer/drink and not drunk. Good job getting her home.

keeping in mind i only drove 5mph the entire time.....
my parts list as of right now is looking like:
an axle shaft rebuild (bearing, seal and "locking plate" lack of better words
and a new set of brake pads....
so maybe $85
