Default How does the N.P. #242 Compare to the Others?

Is it possible to have a N.P. Model 242 Transfer Case in a Command-Trac Cherokee ?

Because it has a higher model number, does that indicate that the 242 is later in design and perhaps a stronger model T.C. then say, a #231 ?

Nope. 231 is stronger than 242. The 231 has just the PT 4, vs the 242 has a part and full time option. The 242 sacrifices strength for convenience.

But comparison wise... Idk, I've got a 242 with just over 100k and it's fine. Gone thru u joints and drive shafts, but not the TC. Unless your gonna be beating the ever lovin crap outta it, you should be fine...
