OH! and the gunk I am referring to is in straight line where the tape use to be.

If you have residue, use goo gone and rub it off. Then put that rubbing compound on by hand and buff it off with machine. Then hand wax and buff with machine again.

You will probably get some scratches with a razor. Gas, mayo, mineral spirits all take crap off too but if you don't get it all off and wax it afterwards the paint will have issues.

If you are looking to remove mastic residue from emblems or moldings, go to an auto body supply store and ask them for an eraser. It's a rubber like compound wheel for a drill that will pull off the glue residue like magic and won't damage the paint.

I did buy a the 3m stripe off easer wheel but it left glue smudges all over becuase the Jeep I have is black so i see everything you wouldn't normally see on lighter colored cars. So I am just gonna buy the meguiars ultimate compound seems to be the perfect product its basically for light blemishes and oxidation so it does the job of polish and rubbing compound.

If the adhesive residue is soft enough that the eraser just pushed it around without removing it, try some wax and grease remover. There's no need to cut clear coat off with compound if thinner will remove it, but it's up to you.

Tellin ya, buy a clay bar. I had a black truck it worked great on, then about 6 years ago, I had an '88 red YJ that was almost pink it was faded so bad and got it lookin nearly new again after using the bar then waxing.
