Default how do you get a cracked head on 2000 xj?

title says it all, i know that if they overheat, they will crack, but if your jeep never goes over 210 (temp gauge), and you never go above 3k rpm?

with they just crack on their own?

i dont off road with my jeep, never goes over 70, cruise is always set at 55
i let it warm up for atleast 5 min before i drive it

let me know what you think.

0331 head used in 2000 and 2001 have a casting flaw in them (thin spot in the coolant galley)
Overheating usually will make the flaw crack and begin leaking coolant into the oil but sometimes the flaw will crack without any overheating.

Keep a ck on your coolant level. if you have to start adding some to the coolant overflow jug once every couple of weeks and you can find no external leak it would be time for a oil analysis to ck for coolant in the oil.

Age can crack a head, just a weak spot in the head can cause it, there are many things that can happen to cause it and alot of reasons you can't control.

Just heating and cooling over and over can crack metal. I think you are taking the right steps to keep the extremes out of the equation but it could still happen.

Preventative action might save the entire engine tho. Look for an aftermarket near stock head and having that put on now might save you from an extremely expensive repair in the near future.

Or pull the motor out and put in a CSB 350.
