yeah channel locks, pinch the "two eared" side and the "one eared" side together and slide the clamp back 6".

 

+1 on channel locks. Although I've opened them with a screwdriver before when I couldn't find them.

 

OH! And chuck those clamps into the trash and spend $5 and get new regular screw style ones. Those factory style clamps arent worth the trouble

Those factory clamps are the best clamps available. You just need the special pliers for these clamps. They are available at most auto parts stores. Do not chit can these clamps for the circus vehicle worm clamps Bubba loves.

 

My mind is blown by this. Bubba loves them because he can use his electric gun to easily loosen and tighten dem screw worms.

Channel locks, or do some finger exercises so you can impress the ladies later on.

 

Don't forget to eat whey protein. Push ups on fingers should work fine. When you can do push ups on 2 fingers, u r ready to remove clamps.

I'm kinda leaning towards CCKen's advise (which is always good) on the factory clamps. They do provide a perfect equal 360 squeeze around the hose and lets face it, that's what a hose clamp is supposed to do, provide perfectly even clamping pressure without cutting into the hose. Have I used the worm gear clamps?.....hell yes, who hasn't.....but I have also had a situation or 2 where the worm gear clamp wouldn't seal unless excessive pressure was applied. Have never had one of those spring tension type clamps not seal.

They make a tool(s) for the spring tension type clamp that makes their removal/installation a breeze (and safe) but who would want to get the right tool for the job. Just kidding, having a little fun, being a smart ***......on my way out to change the oil and filter.....where's that filter wrench?......ah, found it.

I spent $25 for tool, but it didn't work well and finally fell apart.
Maybe if I bought tool for $60...
No way! I'll use sledge hammer!

I prefer the spring clamps, too. With a screw-type clamp, if the rubber relaxes due to temp changes, etc, you will have a leak until you tighten the clamp. The spring-style always keeps a contant pressure on the hose. They are "self-adjusting", so to speak.
