Also look at user XJ Stryker and click on his waggy build for a first hand look at the proper way to do it.

Your NOT going to weld aluminum to STEEL. Not in this lifetime.
Use poprivets if you use aluminum.
If you use steel then you can weld it.

Old street signs, like the stop sign on the dead end road 3 miles away in the country, they make the best floor boards

stuff anything you can get your hands on in the holes. dirty socks, old shirt, GF's hair brush, stray cat then duct tape the crap out of it. you should be fine. really, read the build thread on strykers waggy.

Thinks...Thats just the rear I did the front the same way. A ton of work, but it was cheaper than starting over.

I used Herculiner in mine, it has held up great, the prep is the most important part of it.

Your best bet is to gut the jeep and see where you stand from that point. Rust in xj's is like an iceburg. you can only see the tip. You don't know what you have until you get all the seats and carpet out and start pounding on stuff with a hammer. After I got all the carpet out of mine I found out the outer body structure had rusted and broke off of the uni-body......my jeep was almost scraped at one point.

Well I'd recommend Taking some thick sheet aluminum and using silicone caulk and pop rivets to do the job. Caulk the edges of your cut out aluminum before it is riveted to ensure it won't leak... You CAN weld aluminum but you're gonna need a heliarc welder, and no one seems to have one lol..... Alumiunum will never rust again which is why I like it. I just did the silicone caulk and pop rivet technique to repair a rusted through (all the way around may I add) lower rear quarter. It turned out really good too. You can't even tell the difference between stock and repaired. it's awesome!

I used 20 gauge sheet metal to fab up all the stuff I couldn't buy....after you get all the carpet out it won't rust anyway.......XJ's rust from the inside out. Using aluminum over steel is a bad idea all the way around IMO. You can buy sheet metal of the same thickness to repair your floor.... pretty cheap, use stainless steel rivits and glue the patches down with two part 3M glue. Using STOP signs and a bunch of scrap that you can get your hands on for cheap or free is for Rat Rods, and won't hold up in a uni-body jeep that see's any trail use.

okay so found a good deal on a welder 100 at harbour freight ita a arc welder so i will get some 16 guage steel asw well. Il just cut it and weld it in.

basically after i patch all the holes, i want to put in the hurculiner. Does anyone have a really good thread about how to do it. Ive seen a few but im talking about the whole car front to back and the process after i weld in the steel.

thanks yall! 92 jeepy
