How do I connect these rods in my door??
1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport
The handle on the rear door, driver side broke a few years ago. The button pushed all the way in and fell down inside the door. So, I just got around to fixing it, and I'm not sure how to connect all these metal rods. There are four - two long ones that go from the center of the door panel over to the latch, and two short ones about three to four inches long each. The short ones are connected together with a plastic clip. I've numbered the end of each of the rods. There are four plastic clips on the latch and handle to hold four rod ends. I've marked them with letters. There is also a "U" shaped thing, indicated by an arrow in one of the pics, and I have no idea what that is for. So what number connects to what letter? Rod end #2 is currently connected to clip A, works the lock, so I assume that connects to the clip on the inside of the door panel that also works the lock. What about the others?

Hard to explain, BUT if you opened up the opposite door panel, the rods would be mirror images of one another.
If it were me, I'd take a guess, hook it up, if it worked, great. If not try another arrangement.

That long rod should go from one of those plastic clips on the handle to one on the latch, and one from the button to the latch. Is that what you are asking?
the U shaped thing might be a guide for one of the rods.
just look at the other door, if not possible then just fiddle with it till you find how it sits. It'll only work one way.

Pretty hard to tell someone else how to hook up these small mechanical linkages that don't have names. Best bet is to look at it put together properly somewhere else (like the other door) or go to a junkyard and see.
You're not going to get someone to write "Put part A on part B after rotating part C 15 degrees clockwise while holding Part D at perpendicular to the Johnson rod"
