Default How to determine

How would I go about finding out which gearing the rear axle has? From what I understand 4.56 would make better highway mpg's due to lower rpms @ highway speed? This is what i'd be looking for.

Sorry if this is the wrong spot to post this, i'm still new here and looking around and all.

Thanks though

What year cherokee do you have? Auto/manual? Inline 6 or 4 cylinder? Stock?

Im still in the process of looking and buying, but it will be a 97-01, I 6, most likely an auto 4wd. I am highly interested in http://www.mcpaa.net/itemDetail.php?stock=1922 that one and this one http://www.mcpaa.net/itemDetail.php?stock=1747. Also, did the 97-01 come with 4 speakersor 2?

More than likely it will have 3.55 gears. If it has a tow package/upcountry package 3:73. And to my knowledge they all came with 4 speakers, one in each of the front doors and 2 overhead in the back. Someone correct me if im wrong.

Ohh and i would be cautious about 00-01. Some have issues with 0331 cylinder head castings cracking.

The higher the ratio the higher the engine rpms.

4.56 would have the engine run at higher rpm then 3.73 on the same size tire.

Change the gears when you change to bigger tires.

Ooohhhh okay, so for better highway mpg's id want a lower # gearing? (and a light foot) Thanks for the heads up abotu the 00-01. Personally I like the 97 that I linked to cos it looks nicer, but then again it can be great on the outside but leak like a ***** in heat...
