Someone will hopefully post pics of how to do it and probably explain it better than I can

Here are some before and after shots of my current project. After I trimmed the fenders, I had enough room to fit my 31's under it without a lift. I'm not sure of the backspacing of the rubicon wheels though. Mine are off a sahara edition, TJ.
If you are planning on doing some crawling, I would suggest cutting more than I did to fit those tires. I left a lip, so I trimmed (using a jigsaw with a good metal blade) about an inch and a half down from the very top of the pre existing stock flares.

Thats a really clean looking XJ you got there. You said you're running 31s on stock sahara wheels with 0" lift? looks good

Affirmative. I was running 32's on my old jeep with Rusty's 3", and was planning on going up to 33x10.5's. So I figured, if I could run 33's on a 3", then 31's with no lift should work.

just make sure you keep your bump stops adjusted =] if you get them rubbing on the fender they will slice your tires. (ask me how i know) and fold over your pinch seam in the inner fender well. this is 33" tires and 5.25" lift in the front 6.5" in the rear(playing on a little mound of dirt) clean looking jeeps everyone

you dont need to lift it to make them fit. Well, as long as you are not afraid to cut some sheet metal

Are the splash guards put back in after cutting or just discarded? Gonna tackle this soon also.

Any tips on adjusting bumpstops for this NEWB?

I got into this over the weekend and removed all the junk. When I took off the wheel well liners up front I found a support bar coming from inside the body that was attached to the fender using the same bolts that held the fender trim. It's sucured to the body using rivets. Do I just cut this off?

yes, i just cut and removed the bar, also to answer your other question about the splash guards, i removed mine and threw it in the basement incase i ever need it, or someone else needs it.
