Default How can I quiet down my belt?

I have heard this is a common problem with Jeeps, but my serpentine belt is making a lot of noise when my jeep is running. It is particularly bad during and after a rainstorm. The belt is still in great shape. Is there anything I can do to quiet it down? maybe put some silicon on it or something? Thanks for any suggestions

either your belt is loose or glazed. if its loose, it will soon be glazed. the only reason its a common problem is because it has to be tighter than most people are used to. i'm a tech(shhh, don't tell anyone) and the 4.0 requires the tightest belt of anything i have worked on. you should also check to make you don't have a bad bearing in any of the idler pulleys. get a mechanics stethoscope to listen to the bearing while the engine is running, CAREFULLY. once a belt starts making noise, the only way to fix it is to replace it. keep it for a spare though.

Try tightening it up first by cranking the tensioner bolt in the power steering pump mount. A good rule of thumb is you should be able to twist the belt to a 90* angle. If you can twist it further than that it's too loose and less than that is too tight. Adjust it accordingly and see if that helps. If that doesn't work you can try belt dressing, but last time I used that it made it worse.
