Default How can I get the whole inside of my intake clean?

Pulled an intake at the jy and it is nasty. Don't want to put it on a fresh rebuild like that. Took it to my rebuild guy and he said if I wanted him too he could media blast the inside but doesn't want to incase something gets lodged inside then comes loose after everything is back together. I have it soaking in some industrial grease cleaner I got from Lowes but I don't think that is going to do it. I could use tb cleaner but don't think I can get the inside clean, any ideas?

That stuff is pretty sticky and hard to get out. You can try brake cleaner, it may do the trick. I wonder if oven cleaner would work?

Not sure I'd spray that stuff on aluminum.

I've had good luck with the Auto Zone branded engine degreaser. Spray it on and let it sit for about 15mins then hose off.

I used Castrol Super Clean with a dollar store toilet brush and bottle brush etc. It worked well...

I put it in a large rubber maid container, spray degreaser on it, then boil 4-5 gallons of water, and while its boiling, squirt some dawn blue soap on the intake. Then slowly pour the boiling water down inside the runners until 4-5 gallons is in the container, leave for an hour. Then if it's cooled down enough for you to touch, start scrubbing with various brushes that can fit inside.

I do that with most of my intakes, it get really clean.

Don't put it in you wife's dishwasher.

You could take it to a radiator shop and have it boiled out. They work with aluminum all the time.

When I had mine off, replacing the intake/exhaust gasket..............I sprayed "Purple Power" degreaser in there and let it soak for awhile......
Then I ran my pressure-washer wand down each runner, and it cleaned it out amazingly well................
If you don't have a pressure washer, you could use the one at the do-it-yourself car wash...............

Don't even think about using oven cleaner on aluminum.

Unless you are planning to throw the part away...

I used to use oven cleaner on my bike as a kid to remove the color of the anodized aluminum parts. It never seemed to hurt the aluminum , only stripped the color off.
