Hot light switch
So, I recently got a 91 Cherrokee and the dash lights and tail lights were out. I searched this forum and thought it was a fuse. Sure enough a blown fuse. Replaced the fuse and everthing appeared fine.I decided to leave the lights on to see if it would blow the fuse agaian.Went inside for a few and when I came back the light switch had gotten so hot it was starting to melt thrrough the dash.Any idea how it wouldn't just blow the fuse berfore melting plastic.

What headlights are in it? Has it been converted to something with other than sealed beams? Do you have fog or driving lights on the same switch?
XJs run the power for the headlights through the switch, and it sounds like you have excessive current draw. Either your wiring harness for the lights has a high resistance short, or you're drawing too much power because of lights that you have.
Are you sure you have the right amperage fuse? Too much fuse with excessive current draw for the wiring and switch will make enough heat to melt plastic.

I replaced the 15 amp fuse with a 10 amp. The truck is all stock, no extra lights. I'm not sure why it wouldn't blow the fuse first. Could it be the switch? No manual yet so where do I start to chase this gremlin. How does the switch come out. Thanks
