Default hot kills engine

99 Cherokee i live in western Washington and it has been getting a little hotter then usual i bought the Cherokee last year and it ran fine but today i used the ac. According to the gauge it never got above 200. The question, will the jeep shut down if it over heats. I don't trust the gauge, it acts just like it ran out if fuel. If i let it set for a while it will start up and then die that's just letting it sit for a couple minutes any help will be greatful thanks

Sounds like heat soak. Your engine is designed to run around 210. But if its hot around the fuel rail, and the gas vaporizes before it is injected, this symptom will occur.

possible that the crank sensor is going out, my 99 did this too me.... it would run until it got to operating temp and then die. let it sit for about 30 minutes and it would start and then die minutes later.

when youres does die and wont restart you need to check a couple things

fuel pressure which should be 47 psi i believe
check for spark
check the injectors to see if they are getting power with an injector noid

if there is no spark it is more than likely a failed crank position sensor but can be other multiple things.

Get her up to temp(hot) then stick yer water hose in there & let it trickle onto yer CPS. See what happens.

That's providing yer hose water is cold. I've seen this tell on more than 1 so called CPS problem.

thanks for the help, I replaced the cps and it did improve, but still dieing I can just keep it running a little longer by playing with the gas pedal, I was wrong before it runs at about 210 degrees. I did find out need to replace the elec. fan damage to shourd but still working any other suggestions, One last thing I replaced the cps with a duralast from autozone and the cable seems to be a little short is that normal

To be honest I would never replace the CPS with anything other than MOPAR.

I know I am asking a lot but electrical is my nightmare I am just trying to do what I can before I take it to the shop and pay a lot so all the help I can get is much appreciated. I am picking up a mopar cps tomorrow. to night I put in a new engine coolant temperature senser just cause its cheap and need to start replacing some old parts. the engine started fine but now it dies at about 160 degrees, trying to keep it running i play with the gas but still dies and I smell fuel. I did not get a chance to pull the plug so no answer there my question is there any thing else simple that I could check if a new cps doesn't work. One last question which sensor controls the efan before all this happen I thought it ran to much could be wrong but wont hurt to look at that while am at it. again thanks for any help

Anybody know if 99 has a little elbow tube on the bottom of the MAP on the TB that could be checked?

Our older jeeps have trouble with the MAP tube, but ours is way back up on the firewall. It will run rich and die if the MAP doesn't get good manifold vacuum.

And the answer is the computer. I guess it had enough to start the engine but once it started to have to adjust the mixture it couldn't keep up. Should have known it was more then one thing. As I wrote before I thought that the efan was coming on to much but being new to the Cherokee I let it go but then after it died I notice that it was not coming on at all unless I jump it. thanks for all the help.
