To the OP this "Guy" suggests you you keep your rig maintained. Regardless of mpgs is the smart thing to do. Keeping everything tight makes your ride more efficient and prevents progressive damage.

I've recently learned a lesson about cooling system maintenance. You don't want to neglect your vehicle or it will cost you much more later.

Take advice from the "guy" who has made his living driving, owning and.working on commercial vehicles for 20 years or the one who infers that maintenance doesn't matter.

All I meant is that if you are looking to increase mpgs, one of the last places you should look is the steering components (with the exception of tire pressure). There are MUCH more important things to look at. Obviously if the steering/suspension components are THAT worn, they should be replaced because your ride will be very negatively affected. But the OP makes no mention of that so I assume it is not the case. so once again, gears, exhaust from headers back, and weight and aerodynamics
