Horn Relay Location on my 91
I bought this 91 used, so not sure what was done prior (some front end sheet metal and a 90 VIN), but I have not been able to find the horn relay!! I've found the wire below the column and lose it going toward the firewall and out from horn connector back it gets lost about firewall area. The "standard" locations under the column area and right hand kick panel area don/t have any plugs of the right configuration for a horn relay, so... Has anyone found any other locations? Thanks again, Russ

Thanks for the info - I only wish it helped. I have nothing in any of these areas to plug into. The relay must be missing or not getting power, because their is no relay noise either. I'm about to the point of running a new wire to connect the pieces I can see. I appreciate your input. Russ

Oh yeah, checked every thing under there and out to the turn signal switch connection - everything works good there. It would be easy enough to run a new wire. BUT, it should be easy to find a ^*@+! relay, too! The harness behind the dash looks great also - nothing hacked or added on. The only empty sockets are of an obviously different design than a horn relay connector. As soon as it warms up a bit more, I'll probably split the harnesses a bit and trace it out. Russ

There's some good info there. I remember the relay bock by the right knee area, it seems like one was missing), but the layout looked different than what it should have been. I'm thinking now that maybe I ought to check continuity with the sockets though. Tomorrow is my day off - I'll give it a try and advise on results. Thanks again for your efforts! Russ

Woke up to a day without snow, so got into the 3 relay block and verified that there is not a place for a standard 3-prong horn relay (HR143 Echlin, the number we show in our NAPA catalogs). So, I pulled up a schematic and then the pieces started to fall together!
The schematic shows 4 socket connections with the standard Bosch 5-pin internals, just like the empty spot in my 3-relay block - so I swapped one of the other 2 relays in and ... nothing!
So, went back to schematic, looking at wire colors and which should have power, etc then I saw that those wire colors matched the ones on the top relay - the one I pulled out to test the bottom, empty spot. Tester show power where it should be but nothing happened when horn wire grounded at the steering wheel - but when the black/red wire is grounded at the relay, it clicks. And no continuity from horn button wire to the relay.
It looks like either cancelling cam or turn signal switch as the problem now-I'll pull the steering wheel after lunch and see.
I have corrected my catalogs here as to the Bosch relay being used on the 91 (probably the AR604 that is listed for 94 and up), but it is good to finally put these pieces together!!! Russ

Well, I pulled the steering wheel off and everything looked good. Connection complete from horn button on turn signal switch to connector, but not down to relay - found the connection from T/S switch connector to mating connector was bad, terminal had been spread out. Tightened it up and all is well!!
This has been real good at teaching me patience though (being without a horn) - when you can't honk, all you can do it wait your turn! Russ
