Default Hood Vent tech question.

I see alot of these homemade hoodvents & im thinking of doing this mod to help aid in cooling. I see a few guys are putting in drip pans, but this seems to defeat the purpose? You put the vents in & then put a pan that will still deflect heat??? So my question is... What is the worst case scenario for having it rain in these vents without a drip pan?

I have had my hood vents on for over a year and have had absolutely NO problems. Through rain and snow, summer or winter without any drip pans...Tj

Worst case is shorting out your electrical connections on the throttle body and also the distributor cap ('99 and prior) or the coil pack connections ('00-'01). I've got vents without drip pans and haven't had any issues and we've gotten some pretty heavy rain. No matter what, moisture is going to get in your engine bay from the bottom, even you don't have vents. The best thing is to put dielectric grease on your tb electrical connections, seal your distributor cap (if you have one), and do dielectric grease on your plug wires as well. It'll also help prevent corrosion on all these parts.

people put in drip pans to eliminate or reduce corrsion onthe TB linkage parts...nothing like have a stuck throttle at 3k rpm. If I were to do ANY hood mods to reduce heat I would put hinge spacers to raise the hood at the cowl area - this would create a nice airflow out and on highway driving - it owuld work like cowl induction

That works, but raising the hood on washers increases the chances that it will go through your windshield should you wreck at high speed while getting that cowl induction effect on the freeway. I'd stick with vents.
