the "Wire" that goes between both hood latches is only spot welded together. I had one of mine let go on my 91. You can actually get your arm up there to pull on the wire rod. On the passenger side it's pull toward the centre of vehicle.
On the dirvers side it's PUSH away from the centre of the vehicle. and man is it a *****. I ended up using a crowbar to pry the hood up enough to get at the latch f%$Ked up my fender pretty good. Thats when I found out I was pulling instead of pushing!
After I got it open I fixed it by using some small cable clamps used on aircraft calbe to hold the rods together again. Works great now. Too bad the jeep is returning to it's base elements (rust!). Who says I don't recycle!

There is no access to the latch mechanisms from behind the grill. Unless of course your going to take a sawzall to your rad.

So i got off my ***, walked out to my Jeep and saw that if i were to remove the headlights and buckets i could get access to the horizontal rods and pop the latches. Use a pair of 90* pliars should do the trick.
