Hi all - I was doing a 6 hour drive from VT to NY yesterday and at highway speed, my 2001 XJ just decided to randomly stall out of nowhere (at highway speeds, it's pretty nerve-racking). I calmly coasted into the shoulder and parked. No CEL or other warning lights - I was just doing about 65MPH and all of a sudden the tachometer dropped down to zero. I pulled over, I tried to crank it and it wouldn't start - but after waiting 5 mins or so, it started right back up no problem. No sputter or hesitation. All the gauges read fine except for the tach dropping to zero.
After some searches on the site, it seems that the problem is most likely the Crank Position Sensor, which I have because I had a heatsoak problem earlier and bought it just in case. I am thinking it may be thermal related because I was driving it for a while at about 2500rpm, and the problem seemed to be better when I kept the revs closer to 2000rpm. It was also rainy outside, which I heard can affect CPS.
Are there any other culprits that you guys think I should look at?
