It means your engine has a higher output of horse power than a non high output one. But the high output engine didnt show up until the 1992 year.

its says high output on back of jeep and its a 86

86's had a 2.8L v6. Maybe some replaced the engine. Does it have an inline 6 in it?

they probably replaced the rear hatch with one from an xj that had a 4.0HO

1991 4.0 was rated at 177hp. The 1992 4.0 hp was upped to 190 and the engine was given the HO designation. A Jeep engineer told me it had mostly to do with the camshaft.

PO stuck a 4.0 HO emblem on the hatch. If you have 86 I6 you have renix 4.0, with a HO emblem on the back. I know a guy with a Hemi emblem on his BUG.

I have a 1991 H.o. I has to do with being produced after a certain date in 91 but mine is the 190 version.
