Default Higher than normal oil pressure

I noticed the other day that my oil pressure is higher than normal. It seems to drive fine, and sounds normal, but my range used to be idle at 20-25, and run around 55-60 at highway speeds. Now it is idle at 45-50, running at 80 on the highway.

Should I be worried? What should I do?

Check your oil, see what color it is, and if it overfilled ?/ Also watch your coolant levels.. I hate to say it but it sounds like it might be the start of a head gasket or cracked head?? These were the first symptons we had on ours?? If it is., my advice would be to stop driving it so you do not cause further damage?? If the oil is contaminated with anti freeze it will wipe out the bearings and rings and cause more expensive damage if that is the case..

Ok. I just had the oil changed last week, so it should be good. But I will check. And the Head Gasket was changed right before I bought it last June. I really hope it isn't anything serious since it is my DD and only vehicle.

Thanks

Start by verifying the pressure with a mechanical pressure gauge. More then likely you oil pressure sending unit is starting to go bad. When they go out they usually read high.

Any pointers on where to get one and how to do it? I'm not good with the internals of engines.

You can rent a mechanical pressure gauge at any autozone type of parts store. Just remove the oil pressure sending unit. located just above the oil filter and replace the sending unit with the gauge. If it reads at what your oil pressure was then you will need to replace the sending unit. When buying a new one get it from the dealer. They are more accurate the a after market brands.

Since you just had the oil changed, it's likely that when they changed the filter they bumped the oil pressure sending unit. They are prone to breaking that way.

Get a full metal case one. My jeep had the plastic kind and I must've hit it or something because it started leaking oil from somewhere.
