Higher than normal highway rpm and check engine light
I need some help here. Autozone does not open till 9 and the suspense of what is wrong is killing me. so hopefully someone can help real quick.
Got about 200 yards away from the house this morning and the check engine light can on. i was thinking it was the o2 sensor because of the horrible gas mileage lately and some back soot in the exaust, so i keep going.
Got on the highway, normally when i get to about 65 my rpms are at or around 1750. This morning when i was at 65 the rpm were around 2400-2500. not normal. i checked all fluids
Only thing left to do is get the code, but like i said the suspense is killing me, i need some ideas
Thanks

Thanks for the reply,
So i got the codes (P0700 AND P0705). Autozone print out showed the 700 code was a trans axle control systems fault. 705 was something wrong with the transmission range sensor. a recomended remedy for both was a shorted or open circuit. so i told them i would research this before buying those expensive sounding parts. went back out to the jeep, looked under the left side and saw a wire on the side of the transmission with connector attached to it (still connected and looked ok). i fiddled around with the connector and the wires going into the connector. got back in the jeep and no check engine light. ran it up the highway and all was normal. . i think there was a problem with that connection. if it comes back i will try the same thing, if that doesnt work i will start troubleshooting some more.
Thanks

It sounds like your touqe convertor isnt working.
I read this before i went o work this morning and while driving on the highway i took it out of overdrive and into drive and my rpms were around 2500-2700 so it sounds like your overdrive isnt kicking in.
That would also explain the bad gas mileage if its not locking up.
I'm guessing the connector your talking about is going to your TCC lock up solenoid i would take the conector apart and clean it up and reseal it and check for broken wires.

Watch the connection then. When I saw the "preview" for the thread my first thought was torque convertor wasn't locking up or the trans wasn't going into OD...
