Hey all, was just out driving around in my 94 Cherokee and the temperature creeped up to about 230 while idling, which is odd because it never gets over 210 unless I'm wheeling. Did a full system flush and put a new T-stat in late fall, and I had plenty of coolant in the spare tank. Soon as I started driving it went back down to about 200, so I think water pump is fine. My radiator has had a leak on the third row for a while and goes through a lot of coolant usually. Any thoughts? Thinking my radiator just died. Oh, and its not fan clutch, you can hear it really moving when you give it gas from inside the Jeep, and its flying when I look at it while idling. Any ideas??? Need help!!

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's it, but even when it has been leaking it never got over 210. And in the past few days it hasn't been leaking coolant (as much) or using as much coolant as usual either, so it kind of led me away from radiator... Seems like there might be a clog?

 

have you used a leak sealer?

 

Other than the t-stat, what cooling system maintenance has been done?

 

I think it's got to be a clog in the radiator or something. When I'm idling it creeps to 230, then goes right back down to 200 when I give it gas and am driving. I think that because my radiator usually has a pretty bad leak from a breach on the third row on the bottom, and it hasn't been leaking much at all lately or drinking as much coolant as usual. Just a full system flush and new T-stat, nothing else has been done.

radiator i would say, its like you are in the titanic doing everything to fix everything else except for the giant gash in the side

When u git 'er done all at once, u only need to drain/re-fill once........and the water pump, fan clutch and t stat are so much easier when the rad is out.

 

Guess I'll wait on the Rad then, can't afford a water pump, only had enough for the new radiator. (And I don't know how to do a water pump.. or radiator as a matter of fact)

the radiator requires a bit more, on my 91, I took off the grill, header, and it came out pretty easy
