Default high rpm problems on a automatic xj

ok so my jeep is a 1993 jeep cherokee stock except for a 8.25 rear axle. idk if that changes anything.
here is the problem when i start my jeep up in the morning it starts like a jeep.. but when i go to pull down my drive way my jeep wants to rev. all the way up to 4.5k rpm when im acellerating for 0 to about 35 or 40. with out down shifting. and i found the best way is to take my foot off the gas and wate 2 seconds them acellerate again and it stops. its not a major problem just want to know the cause. so i can spend money on an up grade lol. no but serouisly the first time it did that and it wouldnt down shift and i was going about 50 with 4k rpm. going highway not foot to the floor. and normaly rpm for 50 on the highway is like a steady 2k rpm. help plz wana know the cause.....once she warms up she is ok. maybe my girl is tepremental

I had the same problem. Mine turned out to be a gummed up EGR valve. I had a spare that I cleaned before installing but, you can clean yours up and see if that helps.
