so i re connected the battery and it started idling high! again! so while it was idling high i started messing with stuff. i took wiggled all of the wires and did all of the fun stuff then i went ahead and disconnected the electrical connector that is connected to spin with the butterfly (drawing a blank) i disconnected that and nothing changed i plugged it back in and the idle went down. i test drove it and it seemed to work fine. so i am guessing that is my problem (if it comes back) i think it was just loose

Well guys, sometimes its just the most simple thing.
The butterfly valve was adjusted so that it was open just a small speck. I belive that the oil and crud that i had cleaned off, was restricting the airflow so that this setting was acceptable. But once the build up was cleaned off, the butterfly was letting to much air past. So i turned the adjustment screw 2 full turns back and now she idles at about 900 RPM.

Thank you everybody for all your help. I dont know what i whould do without forums.

Thanks

Anthony

I know this has been awhile, but I'm having the same problem everyone else here had. I changed the IAC valve; that wasn't it. I disconnected the TPS and nothing happened. But I think I'll clean it out tomorrow, though, just in case. I'm not sure it's the problem. I think I need to check the manifold gasket since I just did the 99+ manifold upgrade.

Did you put on a new gasket? Or just reuse the old one? It is possible that you may have over-torqued the manifold bolts, making the gasket crack and causing a vacuum leak.

I am assuming that you were never bothered with a high idle before you threw in the 99+ so I would guess that it's either the manifold gasket or that you may have accidentally cracked a vacuum line when moving stuff around.

Since you have a 96 and put in the 99+ intake, you had to put in a longer hose for the rear CCV right? Is that hose well intact?

It was a brand new gasket. I don't think I over-torqued, but anything's possible. I guess I'll take some WD40 tomorrow and see if there's a leak there. No, I never had a high idle before. I think the lines are all okay, but when I was checking them tonight, it was dark & I suppose I could miss something. Longer hose for the CCV? Hmmm...I recall everything pretty much lining up and reaching everything, except for the IAT sensor, which I extended. Tell me more of this longer hose, rear CCV thing.
