Default High idle??

I see alot of posts about high idle switches. What are they for? I don't think I have one on my Cherokee.

Extended Idle was a feature on Police Cherokee's.
It's a simple circuit that increases engine RPM to 1000-1100 RPM to increase the alternator output. It only works when the tranny (Auto) is in Park.

Maybe there's not one for you?

I just did a word search for "high idle" in my FSM (1997-1999) and it only returned one result and that wasn't for a switch. I think all the sensors plus the PCM will likely cover the function of a high idle switch, whatever function it serves that you were reading about. Not sure what differences may exist between yours and mine (a 1997).

This is an easy mod to do. There is a write-up on it.

You searched for the wrong term. Try it again but look for "Extended Idle"

I haven't heard of anyone doing it with a 95 or older. I've looked into it for my 92. My old 96 forest service XJ had it, but it was a 96 1/2 so it had 97+ harness.

Here are a few ideas for older xj's http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthrea...+extended+idle

On a '95, grounding PCM Pin #10 (Purple wire) should work, at least in an auto trans. You'll have to try it to see in a manual.
Police packages came with autos and column shifters, I don't believe you could get that package with a manual.

Usually pin #10 is plugged, haven't heard of anyone having any luck drilling it out and grounding it. YMMV of course.

Well that's useful, lol. Not owning a '95 I'm going by the pinout in the manual.
