sounds like it's just your 4wd lever bushings are worn out. the linkage will tap against the side of the floor/tranny tunnel at take-off.

if not, then it's likely a bad u-joint on your rear driveshaft.

fantic238 03-11-2010 10:09 AM

is it more like an "*** shaking" or just a tac tac tac...?

96xj33 03-11-2010 02:10 PM

it dosent only happen when its in 4wd, but its like a clunk clunk, kinda as if the knuckles on the driveshaft were hitting the floor haha but they arent

+1 on U-joints.

I just had this same problem. Iy would happen very faintly in 2wd but in 4wd it would be very loud. I swapped Drive shafts and it went away. Since my u joints were almost new I assume it's either the centering ball in the cardan joint or the slip joint. Im leaning toward the centering ball because it had quite a bit of play.

would a sye kit fix this problem?

RENIXBEAST 03-11-2010 02:26 PM

Just had the same issue. It was the centering ball. Not a hard thing to replace, cost about $50.

RENIXBEAST 03-11-2010 02:27 PM

he's running 5.5"s, I would imagine he already has a sye. I hope

Well a sye will help if you have drive line vibes. Here's what you need to do tho instead of guessing. Pull the front shaft drive around see if the prob goes away. If it does your front shaft is the prob and needs some work done to it. If it doesn't then your prob could be drive line vibs which yes a sye would fix. Altho drive line vibs dont usualy kick in until high speeds which makes me suspect the ffront DS.

well i dont have a sye but i need one..any cheap ones out there that are good?

Skreed 03-11-2010 08:15 PM

Cheap is a relative term ...Your gonna spend a few hundred on one no matter how you go about it. When I get one it will prob be the RE hack n tap.

I did give you some input and now I am going to kindly tell you to search SYE there is more info on SYE's than I ,one man, could possibly tell you.

96xj33 03-11-2010 08:35 PM

well thanks, but im going to go with a true SYE kit i would rather not get a hack and tap b/c i dont want to break down in the woods haha

Skreed 03-11-2010 08:44 PM

You are are lucky then....I have a 242 hack n tap is my only choice.

96xj33 03-12-2010 08:31 AM

ooh that is a bummer
