First of all, I did a lot of research before posting and couldn't find much.
While driving to work this morning my Jeep died about 6 times
. Each time I would pull over, put it in park, turn the key off then it would start right up. I would put it in drive and it would run great for a couple of miles. Then all of a sudden it would die and I would do the above all over again. A couple of times I would just go a few feet before it died, but each time it started right up. I was thinking it may be the fuel filter but not sure
. Could it be electronic? I've been having issues with my guages stopping working since I've had the Jeep, but not sure if the 2 issues are related. Any help would be great. Thanks.

No you do not have to replace the entire pump. Advanced Auto and NAPA both sell the the filters.
Don't do anything untill you've determine the root cause. Check the fuel pressure 9with a gauge) at the fuel rail. It should be 49psi.
Did your Check Engine Light (CEL) come on? Have you pulled the codes using a scanner or the key trick? If so, what are the error codes reported?

Thanks Frank. Called NAPA and found out that it's not really a filter, but a strainer in the tank with the fuel pump. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Anyway, does it sound like this could be my issue or not?

If the fuel pump and filter plus the relay are all good you might consider the CPS. There is a test that you can do to check on that and we have that under tech help section.

Cool thanks. I'll check it out. I had a hard time with it being a fuel delivery issue because it never hesitated or acted like it was hurting for fuel, it would accelerate and drive great then all of a sudden die. Is there a way to check the relay?

It is a device which give a signal to the computer that the timing is in sync. It is located on the bell housing of the tranny/engine and is on the drivers side.

I had this similar problem not to long ago. Replaced the CPS like blue was talking about and haven't had a problem out of it since.
