Default Help with TR end

I went to get my jeep aligned today, and they refused to do it until I replaced a bad tie rod end. Understandable. The TR that's bad is the one that connects to the pitman arm...it's a short one...The mechanic said that it was, "loose as a goose."

Well, I took the old one off and compared it to the new one i bought from autozone, and noticed no difference. On both the old and the new, the TR end moves freely. From my experiences w/ TR ends, this is not a good thing. So I'm not sure if it is supposed to be like this, or if I'm missing something.

Any help would be appreciated!
