I just changed the alternator on my 2000 jeep classic. She has about 235k on her. i removed the battery changed the alternator with a re-manufactured one, and its still saying check gauges. I use to have right at 14 volts on the battery now its barley above 9 with it doesnt say check gauges. Anyone know what this could be?
when i was carelessly placing the battery back in it made a huge spark and melted one of the wires in the fuse box. Maybe this is my problem?

oh yea, that 2!
i think in ur 2000, its still an inline fuse (98's have em, not sure if that changed for 99+)....it maybe green wire coming from output of alternator to the stud just outside to PDC....the fuse is inside the wire

You are right. the green wire that you are talking about (that i cant upload a picture of) it keeps blowing off everytime i connect the battery. Maybe there are two wires touching somewhere?
could be a short.....could be the alternator output is too high....positive the alternator works properly?? could've shorted the internals when u re-installed the battery.....take it to a dedicated starter/alternator shop & fix any melted wires
