Default help please

we just had our first snowfall in chicago its not that bad only a couple inches but this being the first winter i have my 99 xj limited my brakes are acting funny in the snow even if its just a little with the least bit of constant pressure on the pedal the a.b.s. starts kickin and truck slides a little ..whether in 4 full time or 2 wheel

Sounds normal for abs on slick surfaces. Better tires will help.

well when i bought my rig a few months ago it came with 3 new tires 1 was replaced cuz of a flat with a used tire that has seen better days... but the thing that surprises me is the a.b.s. kick in way to soon i mean the most minor pressure applied softly and slowy if im in the snow it kicks if its just wet my truck stops just fine

If you say the brakes/abs work fine in the wet but not the snow then it's safe to assume it's a tire issue. "New" doesn't mean they're any good for the snow. The oddball tire could also be the culprit. As soon as any tire is seen as slipping the abs starts to bleed brake pressure from that tire trying to minimize the speed differential. If the tire slips easily in the snow then you aren't going to get much stopping power.
