yes check your vacume lines at passenger side of axle
heres whari would do in first mod if you have anyone to help you out

axle shafts out of a cherokee with abs that has a solid shaft the abs cherokees had slightly better ujoints on the shafts any ways so its a cheap junk yard upgrade the only thing you might need help with is getting the axle nuts on out side of rotor off and the unitized wheel bearing

research it first to see if its somthing you would be willing to go through the trouble for

what els you should lookj for is make sure th front drive shaft is still there lol that was my first problem on my first 4x4

what's happening, or not happening is there is a shifter fork/actuator that is vacuum supplied on the passenger side of the front axle.
it has a thin skid plate and is attached to the axle tube by 4 bolts.

if you were take those 4 bolts out and remove the actuator, you will see it has a fork attached to it that fits into a ring collar. that fork slides the collar across the split 2piece axle shaft thus giving you front drive.

if the vacuum line is severed or leaking, there will be no vacuum to actuate the fork to slide the collar.

so if that's the case, you can replace the vacuum actuator with a cable activated posi-lok system (google it). it's is a bit pricey at around 200 bux, but is a sure fire way to engage the front axle.

so right now, you feel yours engaging, but it will only put the rear axle in lo range. (2lo).

or you can just slide the collar over the split yourself and fix it there with a hose clamp around the axle shaft holding it there for good. it's a cheap fix, but works great.

yeah I put a bolt and nut on the fork kinda like whats called a (perm lok) on my yj
which in my opinion is better than the posi-lok but get the posi-lok if you want to be able to have a 2wheel low

Mine was broke, so i drilled it like they said and put a bolt in it, cost me $0.00 to fix and works great all the time, takes about 1 hour to do

maintenance required. that's just a device that's under the dash with a timer type thing that is there to tell you to do regular maintenance. you can't reset it.
most of us just unplug it to get rid of that annoying light.

so in short, it's nothing to worry about.
