i need help i am lookin at a 2" re and i was wondering whats better a add a leaf or rearblock and why

i know its just a 2" lift but that what i want to start out with

 

you do not want to go with blocks...period

if you go AAL make sure its a long AAL not a short AAL

 

Never go blocks, if you want just a 2" setup i would go with a shackle lift. Teraflex makes some nice shackles

 

AAL is the better of 2 becouse it will be a little softer ride and wont totally ruin your leaf packs like a block will just make sure you get a full length AAL and have you looked into shackles?

haha...depending on how his stock leaf packs are he would want an AAL...

you never want to put shackles on a worn pack...you dont want inverted packs

 

what is a shackle

 

they hold your leaf pack...the extended shackles that teraflex makes can be used to lift the rear of your xj

 

so aal is the best way to go

 

tecnically a shackle is the best way to go... they can continue growing with your lift. an add-a-leaf will eventaully wear out, and if your leaf packs are already shot the add-a-leaf will be supporting the weight the stock leafs should be supporting. id go shackle before AAL

 

ok would i have to worry about anything if i get shacles

 

Shackle is the rearmost mount for your leaf springs. (Just look under rear bumper)

IF your springs are in good shape, meaning NO FLAT, longer shackles will give you good lift. Just get a pair that are adjustable (has 2 sets of holes)

As for AAL, there are several ways to go here:
A name brand AAL, you will have to do some research here, SOME have a tendency to flatten back out after time.

Bastard pack: This is your stock spring packs with either another XJ's/S-10/Dakota MAIN leaf with eyes cut off, bolted in. (Under YOUR MAIN of course)
This will give lift also, but the height varies greatly depending on your leafs, the bastard leafs and if you "add" any extra leafs.

NEVER use blocks to lift the rear of an XJ.
Reason:
1. Spring wrap: causes the leafs to flex harder during hard acceleration/decceleration.
2. Rear Sway bar: IF your XJ has a rear swaybar, the very end of the bar itself is placed dangerously close to the sidewall of the tire. IF you have weak/saggy leaf springs and you have a rear swaybar, I suggest NOT removing it until your springs are strong, especially if it is a "road-rig". If its a "trail-rig"...by all means get that thing outta there.

 

so the shackles will just be for the back?

 

yes and for the front coil spacers should work just fine
