Default help with issues

Ok i have had my 99 XJ for about a month now and still figuring things out and need help/suggestions.

1. ABS light is on and the guy i got it from said he changed something in the rear end that made it come on, some upgrade that supposedly didnt have ABS option? what could this be?

2. Also my AC compressor is not working, clutch is not engaging. Why cant i find just the clutch like on some other models. this you have to have the whole new compressor. It still holds a charge too.

Those are the 2 things i havent been able to find answers for on here yet..

Also the Jeep has 233k miles on it, how much would you recomend putting into it $ wise. my needs include: new radiator, new fluids all around, new brakes, tune up, and possible passenger side window motor. I taded straight up for it with a 99 neon with a prior on it and this is clean and clear.

1. PO probably upgraded the Dana 35 ABS rear to a 8.25 rear. The 8.25 doesn't have ABS tone rings only the Dana 35 does.

2 You have another problem causing the clutch to not engage, Probably a bad high or low pressure switch. Jeeps were not known to have bad clutches, hence why nobody sells them.

Rustys off road has a picture diagram of the rearends available for the Cherokee so you can quickly identify. Www.rustysoffroad.com and check under the FAQ section i do believe. Or, take a picture of the rear diff and post it here and I'm sure someone will tell you.

it looks like the 8.25 its more bowl shaped and doesnt seem to have the middle extension, so that is why ABS light is on! thanks for the help on that. Is the 8.25 stronger/better than the dana 35c?

so the rear end probably doesnt have the 233k then, wish i woulda asked how many miles it has, since it originally came with the dana 35!

The 8.25 is better than the d35c by far. Better gearing, stronger, but is a little to find parts for (atleast for me it is.) We call the d35 the turdyfive for a reason...
