help high idle
okay i have a 96 xj 4.0 just did head gasket and now it idles at like 2300 dont know y and it jumps up if its in neutearl ????????????????????????

I would start by rechecking all my vac lines, sounds like a leak. besides that you could check the idle speed motor see if it has just stuck, or need cleaned etc.

Look at your motor standing at the front bumper. Your idle speed motor is under the air boot twards the front . It has two bolts that hold it on to the throttle body and a three wire clip going into it.Its round and silver.

You could also go to TeamCherokee.com type in the search window Idle control motor that will show you a picture of what it looks like.
