Default Help fast! Front disk break "dust cover"?

I am currently in the middle of doing my u joints. While trying to get the hub off the metal backing plate dust rock cover thing, or whatever it is haha, got really beat up. So do I have to put that back on? Or can i just throw it in the trash and put the hub back on without it?

Do not need it, I think it does more harm than good anyway.

Mine on the XJ were rotted away years ago, toss em. Make sure your rotor doesn't bind with your hubs as the sheilds did provide about 0.060" spacing. If interference then grind the flange corners of the hubs (just a little) to clear. Run lots of conditions and the shields being gone are not presenting a problem. Lookin at our ZJ I'd say it's going to loose it's plates also with the next service.
