Default Help cylinder rust

I pulled my 331 head and saw this. Is it new block time or is it bore and build or is it put the head back on and sell?

Can't say until you know how deep that rust is. It's probably fine, but it may be a sign of other things that are NOT fine.

I'd be a LOT more concerned about what looks like some ring smearing in a couple of those cylinders. See the vertical striations? If that's what I think it is, you need rings.

Another issue is the integrity of the block. How do you know it's okay?

Since you've had water running around in there, how are your bearings? Do you know?

You may get away with slapping the head back on, but I wouldn't. If it were mine, it would be rebuild time.

Thanks. Got a local quote and they said hone the cylinder and use oversize rings and replace the bearings while I'm in there. Going to drop the oil pan and push the cylinders out from the bottom. Then reassemble all while the engine is still installed.
