I was going to add a little oil and when I tried to get the filler cap off, it turns & turns with a squeaky scratchy noise, but makes no progress in coming off. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Same thing happened to be...just pull the pcv out and add the oil through there...goes the same place. It might be kinda hard to pull the pcv out..just use a screwdriver.get under it and pry.

Just pull up hard on the cap, it should seperate from another piece that has the threads on it, using a pair of pliers turn that plastic piece to back it out, then log on to ebay and order another cap for about 10 bucks

Yup, my oldest son always breaks stuff, puts it on too tight, etc. He changed the oil/oil filter in our Cherokee a few years ago and we couldn't get the cap off the next time. We just kept messing with it. Turning it, tapping on it while turning it, etc. I think the engine was warm when I finally got it off and since then I'm careful about how tight I install it at oil changes now.

Mine just did this a couple of weeks ago. Pry the top off the cap and use some adjustable plyers to remove the rest. Go to parts store and buy replacement.

Found this thread after I couldn't remove the oil filler cap hot. Let the engine cool and the cap came off easily. I'll now not use the "ratchet" to tighten the cap, rather just snug it based on experience.
I had assumed the ratchet was the preferred torque setting, perhaps it is meant as a last gasp don't over tighten? Never seen instruction on caps with that ratchet, seems my gas caps have them too.
