Default HELP!! Battery/Alternator/Voltage Regulator

Alright so last week my jeep dies. Get it to the house and figure out my battery isnt charging. Go get the battery and alternator tested. Alternator is bad. Battery is good. So I put in new alternator and had battery fully charged. So now Im getting 12.5 with car off and 12.3 while running. So I clean up all the grounds terminals and connections. No change. Decided it must be the voltage regulator so I wired in an external one. Now my battery wont stop charging goes from 12.5-16v in about 5 seconds and keeps climbing. Any ideas? Im completely lost.

I found a "how to" online.. ran two wires from the alternator to the regulator then one from regulator to battery and other from regulator to ground. Right? wrong?
