Help with 96 classic
I have a 96 xj classic 4.0 stock except for a k&n air filter. I went through a hole saturday night and after I came out i started to give it a little gas and it would go to sputtering like maybe it wasnt getting any air or something. After i give it a little gas a few times and it keeps doing the same thing my buddy said to go ahead and gas it and it might blow it out or whatever so i do that and it starts acting right. I then pop the hood and notice the air filter has gotten a lot of mud on it. The rest of the night it does fine starting and idling, doesnt seem to be any problem. Then today after my jeep has sat there since early sunday morning it wont crank on its on but if i give it some gas while cranking it will crank but will only stay cranked if I continue to give it gas, it will not idle on its on. I think it might not be getting enough air or something so I just take the filter off and try it but it does the same thing so to be on the safe side I put on a older filter I had. After I crank it and drive it for a minute it does fine for the rest of the day. Could anyone please tell me what my problem is.
Thanks

If you got mud into the air filter box, check the distributor. Pull the cap and hose it liberally with WD40 to dry the contacts, and try again. Also check all the wires to make sure they are tight (coil->distributor, distributor->plugs).
