Default HEI conversion

I had a old scout a few years back with a 258 in it and I converted the distributor to a chevy HEI distributor and the difference was amazing. Does anyone know if its possible to do the same with a jeep 4.0 or if its even worth doing. I have a 98 Cherokee I was thinking about trying it on if its possible.

I started a thread about this couple weeks ago. The dizzy doesn't have anything to do with your timing, just timing index, so a normal dizzy will not work in a 4.0l. Alloutperform is right, if you want to swap the dizzy, you have to ditch the ECU system and either switch to a aftermarket EFI like Megasquirt, or a carb. I'm in the process of gearing up to switch to a Motorcraft 2150 or 2100. In my research I heard a lot of guys having problem with the GM HEI dizzy, because they don't like water at all. A ford Dura-spark dizzy will also fit in a 4.0l and is much more reliable on an offroad rig. The Duraspark 2 TFI system also puts out more volts than a GM HEI. Using a Duraspark dizzy alone, you can run what ever coil you want, and whatever ICU you want(MSD, etc.). Stick with the Duraspark 2 "big cap" found on later 70's fords to avoid crossfires and spark scatter.

If your good with carbs and don't mind the occasional maintenance, tired of all the sensors, want complete control over timing and want %110 reliability, switching to a carb and a normal dizzy is a good move. Check your laws first though.
