Heeellllllppppp!!!!
i have an 88 cherokee with the i6 auto. my issue is when i bought it i drove it home cut it off a few times and it always started back. well few days later it would only start if i held the ignition in on position. i replaced ignition and still same problem. in trying to figure it out i pushed on the rod for the cable thats attached to the shifter to tell the computer its in park. when i did this the jeep would no longer crank. i put in a new steering column and still wont crank. the cable is still attached in right places. i cant figure this out and its killin me. all lights and fuel pump comes on just no crank ive heard of hitting the starter but mine is new so i shouldnt have to. thanks in advance

Start simple: Clean grounds, clean cables, tighten cables, tighten starter connections, tighten everything up a notch.
A little corrosion means a little current sneaks thru - enough to light things up - but not enough to launch the starter solenoid. Weak battery can do this, too.
If no joy, clean and snug up starter relay connections. If stick, rock it back & forth in gear a bit - maybe a sensor lost it's sweet spot, too.
