Default Heating issue's SOS

I own a 2001 2.5TD cherokee, the heating currently does not work. The fan blows air onto the windscreen but cant be changed, In the engine bay back right hand side there are two disconected pipes electrical connections and a place to mount a unit of some description i have been told the heater matrix is located behind the dashboard as this is what I assumed the problem would be. Also on the dashboard controls i have a small snowflake next to the settings which I assume would be for A/C again this does'nt work...Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated only a few months to winter and I live in the mountains....Cheers Dave

Vacuum can in the passenger side of the bumper is either disconnected or leaking. Common problem.
