Default Heater problems

So now that it's going to be in the lower teens all week I've decided I need to get my heat fixed... But I would like some guidance on this project. I have a 1990 4.0 and when I turn the heat on it is very faint and only comes out of the foot area and the defrost vents, yet if I put the vent option on it comes out of all my vents except my feet area. So question is what could cause me to have very faint heat only coming from the defrost area and feet area when the controller is set to heat? Thanks in advance

Have you searched for this yet? There's alot out there on this subject especially right now with this wonderful weather

First thing you should do if you haven't is flush the heater core. Then make sure your blend door is working properly.

I've tried searching but I never really found anyone with my issue. Sounds like I'll be flushing my heater core tomorrow thank you

i don't believe that write up is any good for a 90. 2000 xj's (i think 99+) use a motor to open and close the door. i'm still looking for an answer to this for my 96. i'll let ya know if anyone gets back to me.

Wait a sec....I have been reading up on this as mine is also not heating. I checked my 2000 XJ's blend door and it appears to be cable operated! I turned the temp **** left and right, it moved a cable up by the passenger's left foot.

You probably found a ton of info, but didn't recognize that it applied to your case.

Sorry for the crappy cell pic. When I twist the temp ****, this cable moves. I assumed it's opening closing the "blend" door?

Either someone put a '97-'98 HVAC Unit in your 2000 XJ or you don't have a 2000 XJ. That Blend-Air Door crank set up was discontinued in 1999.

In a way its much better than the servo motor door actuator found in the '99-'01 XJ's because it's less likely to fail.

What a way to find out you don't actually have a 2000 XJ, lol...
